WHEN YOU’RE THE star of your own movie, it’s hard to see the big plot twist coming.
Well, Taylor Gabriel did, but watching the mic’d up version of Super Bowl LI, you get the sense that the Atlanta players and staff were the last people in Houston’s NRG Stadium to realise they were about to be on the wrong side of the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.
At 21-0, wide receiver Mohamand Sanu was so confident he turned to team-mate Gabriel and said:
“They ain’t never met nothing like this. We about to put 40 something on their ass.”

Gabriel’s reply…
They got Tom Brady though.”
One of the NFL’s best features is putting microphones on players during games and the Super Bowl LI edition of ‘Sound FX’ is an instant classic.
To be fair to Sanu, while he was wrong about the final scoreline, at 14-0 he predicted his defence would force an interception and Robert Alford stepped up and not only picked Brady off but ran 82 yards for the touchdown.
Among the other highlights were Julian Edelman telling Brady — at 21-3 down — “This is going to be one hell of a story.”
And, at the end of the game, LeGarrette Blount going up to Brady and Bill Belichick and shouting at the coach:
“You’re the greatest of all time! You’re the greatest,” before poking his quarterback in the chest and saying:
“And you’re the fucking greatest!”
After Sunday (actually, even before) who would disagree?
